The National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) has launched a three-week professional development training program in Islamabad, designed for 27 fellows of the Interim Placement of Fresh PhDs (IPFP). The initiative aims to equip new PhD graduates with the essential skills and knowledge required for effective teaching and leadership roles in higher education institutions across Pakistan.<\/p>\n
The opening ceremony featured Dr. Noor Amna Malik, Managing Director of NAHE, as the chief guest, and Engr. M. Raza Chohan, Adviser (HRD) of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), as the guest of honor. Mr. Sulaiman Ahmad, NAHE Director, welcomed the participants and provided an overview of the training program\u2019s structure. He emphasized that the Faculty Development Program is part of NAHE\u2019s commitment to academic progress and innovation, while directly contributing to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, such as quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, reduced inequalities, climate action, and strong institutions.<\/p>\n
To foster an enriching and holistic learning environment, NAHE has introduced several innovative components into the training. One feature, \u201cRead & Reflect,\u201d requires participants to read a selected book and submit a reflective report, cultivating critical thinking. Another, \u201cPlant a Promise,\u201d has each fellow plant a sapling as a pledge towards growth and environmental stewardship. \u201cDastan Sarai\u201d encourages sharing of personal or meaningful stories to develop narrative and cultural skills, while \u201cCommunity Connect\u201d involves dedicating time to community service, boosting civic responsibility. The \u201cLearning Together\u201d peer mentoring program is also included to enhance collaborative learning and mutual support among the participants.<\/p>\n
During the event, Engr. Chohan congratulated the new fellows and praised NAHE\u2019s innovative approach to faculty development. He urged participants to approach their professional growth strategically, highlighting the importance of continuous learning and adaptability in their academic careers.<\/p>\n
In her keynote address, Dr. Malik encouraged fellows to actively participate in all sessions, uphold discipline, and maintain professional decorum throughout the program. She expressed confidence that this comprehensive training would help transform the fellows into skilled, dedicated, and influential educators, ready to contribute to Pakistan\u2019s higher education sector.<\/p>\n
