KARACHI: Mashreq Pakistan, part of Mashreq, one of the leading financial institutions in the MENA region, has appointed Muhammad Umar Ilyas as Chief Information Officer for its Pakistan operations, the bank announced on July 15, 2026.<\/p>\n
The appointment underlines Mashreq Pakistan\u2019s continued focus on technology, innovation and digital banking capabilities as it expands its operations in the country.<\/p>\n
Umar brings over 22 years of experience in technology leadership, digital transformation and large-scale IT operations across the telecommunications and financial services sectors. He has led enterprise-wide transformation programmes, developed high-performing teams and worked on future-ready technology ecosystems.<\/p>\n
In his recent leadership roles at PTCL Group and Ubank, he was responsible for data centre strategy, deployment and operations, cloud transformation and complex core banking transformation programmes. These included digital banking platforms and allied applications. He has also driven large-scale digitalisation initiatives and managed complex technology environments across internal operations and customer-facing platforms.<\/p>\n
In his new role, Umar will support Mashreq Pakistan\u2019s digital transformation agenda, strengthen its technology platforms and innovation capabilities, and help accelerate the adoption of cloud, artificial intelligence and advanced analytics. The bank said these efforts are aimed at delivering a digital-first banking experience.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Hamayun Sajjad, Chief Executive Officer of Mashreq Pakistan, said technology would remain central to the bank\u2019s efforts to scale responsibly, securely and efficiently as Mashreq continues to strengthen its presence in Pakistan. He said Umar\u2019s appointment reflected the bank\u2019s long-term commitment to building strong local capabilities while offering a modern, dependable banking experience aligned with customer expectations in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Commenting on his appointment, Muhammad Umar Ilyas said Mashreq had built a strong reputation for combining innovation with operational discipline across markets.
