Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal has said that the National Institute of Health holds a central position in Pakistan\u2019s healthcare system and must be strengthened on modern lines to meet the country\u2019s growing health challenges.<\/p>\n
Addressing the Board of Governors of the National Institute of Health, the minister welcomed all board members and said the institution played an important role in dealing with epidemics, diagnosis, research, training and evidence-based policymaking.<\/p>\n
Mustafa Kamal said Pakistan was currently facing multiple challenges in the health sector, with the burden of both communicable and non-communicable diseases increasing with each passing day.<\/p>\n
He said large-scale reforms had been introduced in the Ministry of Health, adding that practical steps to protect people from falling ill were among his key priorities. He said expanding universal health coverage was also his foremost priority.<\/p>\n
The minister stressed the need to strengthen real-time mechanisms for timely identification of disease risks. He also called for promoting local vaccine production and quality processes to ensure the achievement of the national goal of vaccine security.<\/p>\n
Mustafa Kamal said the National Institute of Health should enhance coordination with provincial governments and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Addressing the board members, he said they carried a major responsibility, as their actions and decisions directly affected the health of millions of Pakistanis.<\/p>\n
