ISLAMABAD: The Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East & Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), in collaboration with the Pakistan Africa Institute for Development and Research (PAIDAR), organised an event to commemorate Egypt\u2019s Revolution Day.<\/p>\n
The ceremony opened with the national anthems of Pakistan and Egypt. The event was attended by senior diplomats, scholars and policy experts, with Dr. Ihab Abdelhamid Hassan, Ambassador of Egypt to Pakistan, as the Chief Guest and Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan, Additional Foreign Secretary (Africa), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan, as the Guest of Honour.<\/p>\n
The speakers included Ambassador Moin ul Haque, Director General ISSI; Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman Board of Governors, ISSI; Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, President PAIDAR; Ambassador Aamir Shoukat, Pakistan\u2019s Ambassador to Egypt; and Dr. Amina Khan, Director CAMEA.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Ambassador Moin ul Haque referred to Egypt\u2019s rich civilisational legacy and its important standing in the Arab, African and Islamic worlds. He said Pakistan and Egypt enjoyed a longstanding friendship based on shared history, mutual respect and close cooperation. He also underlined Egypt\u2019s relevance to Pakistan\u2019s \u2018Engage Africa\u2019 policy and reaffirmed ISSI\u2019s resolve to enhance links with Egyptian think tanks and academic institutions through research, dialogue and policy exchanges.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Dr. Ihab Abdelhamid Hassan said the 23 July 1952 Revolution was a defining moment in Egypt\u2019s modern history, reflecting the ideals of national independence, sovereignty and social justice. He said the Revolution also served as an inspiration for liberation movements in the Arab world, Africa and the Global South.<\/p>\n
The Egyptian envoy highlighted the longstanding and wide-ranging partnership between Pakistan and Egypt. He noted the growing momentum in bilateral relations, including high-level exchanges and the successful 10th round of bilateral political consultations. He said both countries remained committed to dialogue, diplomacy, international law and multilateral cooperation. He also stressed the role of think tanks and academic institutions in deepening mutual understanding and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, defence, education, culture and people-to-people contacts.<\/p>\n
Dr. Amina Khan highlighted the importance of the 23 July 1952 Revolution in Egypt\u2019s history and spoke about the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Egypt. She also referred to the two countries\u2019 shared perspectives on regional issues and reaffirmed CAMEA\u2019s commitment to strengthening Pakistan\u2019s engagement with Africa through research and dialogue.<\/p>\n
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed described Egypt as a central force in the Arab world and the region\u2019s centre of gravity. He said Egypt was among the few countries visited by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He added that the 1952 Egyptian Revolution marked a turning point and inspired nationalist movements across the Arab world, while also reaffirming the strategic value of Pakistan-Egypt relations.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Aamir Shoukat spoke about the durable and multidimensional relationship between Pakistan and Egypt. He underlined the close political dialogue between the two countries and the recent revival of bilateral consultations. He also appreciated Egypt\u2019s notable development and called for broadening cooperation in trade, investment, academic exchanges and think tank collaboration.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan highlighted Egypt\u2019s exceptional civilisational, cultural and intellectual heritage, describing Cairo as a centre of history, learning and religious diversity. He said Egypt held strategic significance for Pakistan as a partner in promoting regional peace, South-South cooperation and economic connectivity. He also pointed to the increasing potential for cooperation in trade, investment, defence, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.<\/p>\n
In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Khalid Mahmood said Egypt\u2019s Revolution Day carried great significance and noted Egypt\u2019s important role as an influential partner in advancing peace, security and development.
