SHAMAKHI, Azerbaijan: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik met Ms Fatma Varank, Deputy Minister for Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of T\u00fcrkiye and President of the upcoming COP31, on the sidelines of the COP31 Heads of Delegations Retreat in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan, on July 23, 2026.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on their common vision and priorities for COP31, which will be hosted by T\u00fcrkiye later this year.<\/p>\n
Pakistan and T\u00fcrkiye agreed to develop and launch joint programmes in the run-up to COP31, with special focus on electric vehicles, electrification, improving energy efficiency and strengthening the recycling industry.<\/p>\n
Dr Malik briefed the Turkish delegation on two initiatives being developed by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination. These include the \u201cGreen Field\u201d Programme, aimed at encouraging a green start-up revolution and supporting young entrepreneurs in developing innovative climate solutions.<\/p>\n
He also shared details of the \u201cGreen University\u201d initiative, which is envisioned as a global platform for research as well as student and faculty exchanges to promote commercially applicable research and innovation.<\/p>\n
Both sides agreed to make significant announcements regarding these initiatives at COP31 and explore further opportunities for closer cooperation between Pakistan and T\u00fcrkiye in these areas.<\/p>\n
The federal minister also conveyed the warmest regards of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to the President of the Republic of T\u00fcrkiye and the First Lady, acknowledging her keen leadership and interest in addressing climate change and promoting climate action.<\/p>\n
