ISLAMABAD: Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry has said Pakistan remains committed to strengthening its relations with the United States through parliamentary diplomacy, people-to-people engagement and wider cooperation in different fields.<\/p>\n
He made the remarks while referring to a high-level meeting held at Parliament House between the Pakistan-US Parliamentary Friendship Group and a visiting delegation of the US Congress. The meeting was chaired by the group\u2019s convener and MNA Syed Hussain Tariq, while parliamentarians from various political parties were also present. The US delegation included Congressmen Ryan Zinke and Michael Baumgartner.<\/p>\n
Barrister Danyal said the people of Pakistan appreciated the diplomatic role played by US President Donald Trump in reducing tensions during the recent Pakistan-India standoff. He said the gesture reflected growing trust and a positive direction in relations between Pakistan and the United States.<\/p>\n
He observed that stronger parliamentary linkages between the two countries could help improve mutual understanding and create new avenues of cooperation in trade, education, investment, academic exchanges and institutional partnerships.<\/p>\n
The parliamentary secretary also underlined the need to revive the Pakistan Caucus in the US Congress, saying such a step would further strengthen legislative engagement between the two countries.<\/p>\n
Referring to the visit of the US delegation and its meetings with Pakistan\u2019s military leadership, Barrister Danyal said the acknowledgement of Pakistan\u2019s role in regional peace showed that bilateral relations were moving ahead on a constructive path. He added that both sides were keen to expand cooperation.<\/p>\n
Barrister Danyal rejected a recent Pew Research Center survey, describing it as inconsistent with ground realities. He said Pakistanis were proud of their long-standing friendship with China, but this did not mean that they held negative views about the United States.<\/p>\n
He said Pakistan-US relations had developed over decades and were based on mutual respect, shared interests and continued progress in diplomatic, parliamentary and public engagement.<\/p>\n
