KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that the country\u2019s problems would be resolved if those who won were allowed to win and those who lost were not imposed on the people.<\/p>\n
Addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq on August 1, 2026, he said Mohsin Naqvi had acknowledged the failure of the present system and, in doing so, admitted that both those imposed through Form 47 and those who imposed them had failed.<\/p>\n
Hafiz Naeem said the Jamaat-e-Islami\u2019s position was clear and categorical: all institutions and individuals should return to their constitutional positions, and the system would begin to correct itself. He said that whenever matters went out of control, issues were raised to make people quarrel among themselves and debate on linguistic grounds so that the real question was pushed into the background.<\/p>\n
He said local government elections had not been held in Punjab since 2015, while in Karachi the way was blocked for a Jamaat-e-Islami mayor. He alleged that the PPP itself was a product of Form 47 and asked Bilawal Bhutto to show Form 45 for the seven seats obtained from Karachi. He said those who did not get 17 seats had been handed the whole country, adding that those responsible for the regime change could not be forgiven.<\/p>\n
The JI chief said it was necessary to hold elections in the country on the basis of proportional representation. He also demanded the release of political prisoners and said the entire ruling class, including the military, should give up its unnecessary privileges.<\/p>\n
Announcing protest plans against what he called the cruel collection of petrol levy as an extortion tax, Hafiz Naeem said Jamaat-e-Islami would hold protests and block roads across the country on August 7. He said a major women\u2019s protest march would be held on Shahrah-e-Quaideen on August 3, while youth would also come out on August 2 to prepare for the August 7 protest. He said the people would use their constitutional and legal right and force the rulers to bow down.<\/p>\n
Hafiz Naeem also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of 35 miners in Balochistan.<\/p>\n
Speaking about Karachi, he said the city was the economic hub of the country, but neither the federal government nor the provincial government, nor any ruling party, was ready to own it. He alleged that the PPP had occupied Karachi\u2019s institutions and resources, while the people remained deprived of basic facilities.<\/p>\n
Referring to Azad Kashmir, Hafiz Naeem said the government had worsened the situation there. He said that if the issue had been resolved through talks, the situation would not have deteriorated to this extent. He said resolving issues through bullets created hatred and provided an opportunity to foreign powers and anti-state elements to benefit.<\/p>\n
He said dialogue remained the way to resolve the problems in Azad Kashmir, adding that the tone of the rulers was hurting Pakistan. He said this style of governance would have to be abandoned. Kashmiris, he said, were Pakistanis\u2019 brothers, and neither the PPP prime minister in Azad Jammu and Kashmir nor the Government of Pakistan had played any role.<\/p>\n
Hafiz Naeem said Jamaat-e-Islami had always offered its services for the resolution of the Azad Kashmir issue. He said the events of the last few days had worried every Pakistani. He reiterated that the issue could not be settled through force, saying the personnel of the forces were also their people and the people of Azad Kashmir were also their brothers. He said JI had never accepted any anti-Pakistan narrative and supported a solution through negotiations.<\/p>\n
On petrol prices, the JI chief said that, in currency terms, petrol was being sold in Pakistan at the highest rate in the region. He described the levy as a grave injustice to the people and a government extortion tax. He said that when rulers were asked to abolish the levy, they replied that Pakistan was in an IMF programme and therefore the levy could not be removed.<\/p>\n
He rejected this reasoning, saying the government had in fact failed to achieve its targets. He alleged that the FBR had become a hub of corruption. Citing Awais Leghari, he said there were 30 million motorcycles in Pakistan, and the poor and middle class who used these motorcycles were paying heavy taxes and levy. He said even those whose income was not taxable were paying tax and levy.<\/p>\n
Hafiz Naeem said that when petrol prices increased, the prices of all commodities shot up and the budget of the poor people went completely out of control. He said the rulers\u2019 own luxuries were not ending and the entire burden had been placed on the public. He said when people turned to solar energy because of rising electricity prices, the government changed solar policies.<\/p>\n
He said such incompetent rulers had been imposed on the people who did not have the capacity to solve any issue.<\/p>\n
JI Karachi Ameer Munem Zafar Khan, Karachi Naib Ameers Saifuddin Advocate and Raja Arif Sultan, Sindh Assembly member Muhammad Farooq, Information Secretary Zahid Askari and Senior Deputy Information Secretary Sohaib Ahmed were also present at the press conference.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
