Ambassador Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, met with the Thai Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Rongvudhi Virabutr, at the Thai Embassy in Islamabad to discuss parliamentary cooperation and the promotion of women\u2019s leadership. The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and encourage collaboration on advancing women’s empowerment in both countries.<\/p>\n
During the talks, Ambassador Khar introduced the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC), a new international forum established to enhance dialogue and cooperation among legislatures. She noted that the ISC has already brought together 45 Speakers of national parliaments from around the world. Pakistan\u2019s Senate Chairman, Yousuf Raza Gillani, was unanimously elected as the first President of the ISC. Ambassador Khar formally invited the Speaker of the Thai Parliament to attend the upcoming ISC session in Islamabad, which will focus on the themes of peace, security, and development.<\/p>\n
A key part of the discussion centered on the importance of women\u2019s participation in decision-making positions. Ambassador Khar underlined Pakistan’s efforts to promote women\u2019s leadership and highlighted the vital role of platforms like the ISC in amplifying the voices of women worldwide. She emphasized the need to encourage women to join the workforce and actively contribute to society, pointing out recent legislative measures taken by the Senate of Pakistan to promote women’s empowerment and ensure their meaningful involvement in national development.<\/p>\n
Thai Ambassador Virabutr welcomed these initiatives and voiced support for actions aimed at increasing women\u2019s participation in leadership roles. He expressed willingness to further such efforts in cooperation with Pakistan. Ambassador Khar reiterated her commitment to supporting these shared goals, stressing the importance of creating sustainable opportunities for women, particularly those facing barriers to representation.<\/p>\n
