The programme focused on practical assessment and management techniques, socio-emotional support, speech remediation, physiotherapy, and multidisciplinary collaboration, and concluded with recommendations for follow-up training to develop Individual Rehabilitation Plans for enrolled children.<\/p>\n<p>Organized by the National Institute of Special Education, the training responded to a need-based assessment carried out under the DGSE\u2019s Road Map for institutional strengthening, approved by the Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training. The DGSE, an attached department of the ministry, has responsibility for expanding and improving special education and rehabilitation services in the Islamabad Capital Territory.<\/p>\n<p>Sessions combined lectures with practical demonstrations to ensure participants could apply new approaches in classroom settings. Key topic areas included introduction, assessment, and management of cerebral palsy; strategies to address socio-emotional challenges; speech issues and remedial therapies; and the role of physiotherapy and multidisciplinary teamwork in daily classroom handling of children with cerebral palsy.<\/p>\n<p>Renowned rehabilitation experts led the sessions, including Professor Dr. Qamar Mehmood from Riphah International University, special educationist Meena Asad, speech pathologist and consultant Shabaz Akhtar Khalid, and senior physiotherapist Jawwad Afzal. The Director General of DGSE, Capt (R) Asif Iqbal Asif, attended the opening day and underscored the importance of continuous professional development for staff working with children who have complex needs.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-six teachers and professionals from the special education centre participated, engaging actively in discussions and sharing experiences. The workshop not only bolstered the skills of teachers, caregivers, and therapists but also produced practical recommendations to strengthen classroom practices.
