The IWMB drew attention to International Vulture Awareness Day to raise public awareness about the dramatic declines in vulture populations around the globe. In Pakistan, eight vulture species are known to occur. The IWMB highlighted Margallah Hills National Park as habitat for two of these species: the Himalayan Griffon Vulture and the Egyptian Vulture. These populations are important locally and contribute to the country\u2019s overall biodiversity.<\/p>\n
Vultures perform a critical ecological service as nature\u2019s clean-up crew by consuming carcasses and thereby limiting the spread of disease and reducing scavenger competition. Despite their importance, vultures face multiple threats, including poisoning, habitat degradation, and human disturbance, which have driven declines in many regions.
