Health Minister Mustafa Kamal chaired a high-level meeting to review progress on ongoing health projects and to push for faster completion of key initiatives, including the new emergency department at the under-construction cancer hospital. He outlined continuing reforms across the health sector, including the digitization of regulatory bodies and measures to eliminate counterfeit medicines.<\/p>\n
At the meeting, officials presented updates on current projects within the health ministry. Kamal directed that ongoing works be put on a fast track to ensure timely completion and ordered all necessary steps be taken to finish the new emergency facility at the cancer hospital without delay.<\/p>\n
Kamal emphasized that reforms in the health sector will continue, pointing to recent changes made within the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and the Nursing Council. He said these reforms aim to strengthen governance, accountability and service delivery across medical and nursing professions.<\/p>\n
To promote merit and transparency, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council is being fully digitized, Kamal said, and a detailed roadmap and integrated strategy have been developed to guide the process. He added that the Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) has also digitized medical device records, and that licenses for medical devices are now being issued within a 20-day timeframe.<\/p>\n
On the issue of counterfeit medicines, Kamal reported accelerated work to implement 2D barcodes across pharmaceutical products.
