The SPREE project, funded by Denmark and delivered through the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Pakistan, aims to strengthen the country\u2019s national response to violent extremism. Its approach combines public awareness campaigns, community-based engagement and support for local initiatives that encourage positive civic participation and reduce susceptibility to extremist influence.<\/p>\n
A new strand of the project has established a social enterprise at the University of Narowal. The enterprise is designed to create practical opportunities for young people to develop skills, pursue innovation and build resilience. By connecting training, mentorship and community activities, the initiative seeks to offer constructive alternatives that redirect youthful energy toward employment, entrepreneurship and civic leadership.<\/p>\n
To advance these efforts, Denmark\u2019s Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires a.i., Peter Emil Nielsen, held discussions with Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary. The meeting focused on expanding Danish\u2013Pakistani collaboration to scale youth empowerment initiatives in communities at risk and on strengthening coordination with UNODC and local institutions.<\/p>\n
Officials said the combined focus on awareness, local engagement and youth-led economic and social opportunities is intended to reduce drivers of violent extremism by addressing underlying grievances and offering sustainable pathways for young people.
