Mustafa Kamal stressed that prevention must take priority over treatment and urged a nationwide shift toward preventive healthcare. He said, ‘Prevention is better than cure. We must focus on precautions and disease prevention rather than only treatment.’ The minister pointed to a troubling statistic that around 68% of diseases in Pakistan are water-borne and noted that disease risks begin from birth, underscoring the need to move away from a reactive ‘sick-care system’ to proactive health protection for families and communities.<\/p>\n
The minister also announced that Pakistan has become the 151st country to introduce the HPV vaccine as part of efforts to prevent cervical cancer. He highlighted international practice, noting that countries including Canada, the United States and Saudi Arabia have integrated HPV vaccination into routine immunization and, in some places, school entry requirements. With nearly 5,000 women diagnosed with cervical cancer each year in Pakistan, Mustafa Kamal said the new vaccine rollout is a crucial step to reduce this burden and protect future generations.<\/p>\n
Emphasizing the role of immunization, the minister said vaccination is among the most effective tools to lower disease rates and relieve pressure on health services. He urged authorities to prioritise immunization, preventive healthcare initiatives and public health awareness so Pakistan can transform its health system into one that shields people from illness before it strikes.
