A panel convened in Islamabad to launch the report “Generating Evidence on Internally Displaced Children, Afghan Child Migrants and Forcibly Displaced Children in Pakistan” and its accompanying policy brief, bringing together experts working across child protection, migration and displacement.<\/p>\n
The discussion featured contributions from Mr. Nasir Dostani, Director General of the Social Welfare Department in Balochistan; Taymoor Nawaz, Director Coordinator at the Chief Commissionerate Afghan Refugees; Mr. Ijaz Khan, Deputy Chief Protection Officer for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection; and Madhev Belbase, Child Protection Officer at UNHCR. The session was moderated by Member Punjab NCRC, Dr. Mehek Naeem, who steered discussions toward actionable recommendations for practitioners and policymakers.<\/p>\n
Speakers explored practical and forward-looking strategies to enhance the protection of displaced children in Pakistan, emphasising improved accessibility and quality of child protection services and stronger inter-agency coordination. Panelists highlighted the importance of identifying low-cost, community-based interventions, including converting underutilised urban spaces into safe, child-friendly zones that can provide immediate psychosocial support and secure environments for vulnerable children.<\/p>\n
The group underlined the urgent need for inclusive, child-sensitive policies that prioritise the best interests of children irrespective of their migration or legal status. There was consensus that aligning efforts across provincial departments, humanitarian agencies and child rights institutions is essential to create consistent, rights-based responses for displaced children across Pakistan.<\/p>\n
