The Pakistan\u2013Turkmenistan Parliamentary Friendship Group convened its inaugural meeting at Parliament House in Islamabad on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, under the leadership of Sanjay Perwani, MNA. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce delivered detailed briefings on the political, economic and cultural dimensions of Pakistan Turkmenistan relations, setting the tone for closer parliamentary cooperation.<\/p>\n
Group members present included Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Fateh Ullah Khan, Arshad Abdullah Vohra, Khawaja Izhar Ul Hassan, Usman Ali, Saba Talpur and Naima Kanwal, who engaged in substantive exchanges with government representatives on next steps to strengthen bilateral links.<\/p>\n
Officials updated members on ongoing regional connectivity projects and multilateral engagements, while parliamentarians underlined Pakistan\u2019s shared interests with Turkmenistan in energy security, trade and transit cooperation, regional connectivity and cultural exchanges. The focus on practical cooperation reflected a common agenda to translate diplomatic ties into tangible economic and social benefits.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, the convener recalled Pakistan\u2019s early recognition of Turkmenistan\u2019s independence and the steady record of bilateral engagement since, and stressed the need to deepen high-level exchanges, advance parliamentary linkages and promote people-to-people contacts. He directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan\u2019s Mission in Turkmenistan to formally request the Mejlis to establish a counterpart parliamentary friendship group to institutionalise legislative cooperation.<\/p>\n
