He outlined five central challenges identified in the book that continue to shape Pakistan India relations: the intractable Jammu and Kashmir dispute, irreconcilable positions on terrorism, domestic political volatility, India’s regional ambitions, and complex global geopolitics. He urged Pakistan to pursue peaceful and respectful engagement while protecting its rights under the Indus Waters Treaty and maintaining strategic clarity and patience.

Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani as Chief Guest praised the book’s comprehensive review of history, culture and the disputes that followed partition, and called for broader dissemination of these perspectives inside Pakistan and in India. He warned that the expansion of contentious issues between the two countries has undermined prior gains and stressed the role of media, academia and civil society in promoting peace-minded leadership.

Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry highlighted four cumulative drivers of the deep disconnect in Pakistan India relations: enduring mistrust rooted in pre- and post-independence events, historical contestation over Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir, the narrative of cross-border terrorism used to delegitimise legitimate political struggles, and India’s hegemonic posture in the region. He affirmed that the road to peace may be bumpy but is not closed, noting a need for more Pakistani scholarship to balance prevailing narratives.

Ambassador Vice Admiral Khan Hasham bin Siddique commended the book for its clear language and evidence-based approach and regretted the limited engagement from Indian scholars. Raja Amer Iqbal emphasised how economic and people-to-people exchanges have been held hostage to geopolitical tensions, and welcomed the author’s balanced, pragmatic outlook. Ambassador Khalid Mahmood in his vote of thanks described the book as a candid account of persistent hostility in the current political climate.

The launch reaffirmed the need for sustained dialogue and measured diplomacy as Pakistan navigates Pakistan India relations, with contributors urging internal consolidation, strategic patience and continued advocacy for a peaceful, honourable coexistence in South Asia.

ISSI hosted the launch of Ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry’s book on Pakistan India relations, outlining challenges and paths for peace and diplomatic engagement.

[94

post-12111","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
["GET
