The collaboration aims to map the prevalence and diversity of pathogens circulating in wild carnivores and to strengthen the scientific basis for responses that link wildlife, environment and human health.

Field teams will collect scat samples from wild carnivores and deliver them to diagnostic laboratories for molecular and microbiological analysis. By examining pathogen presence and variety, the study seeks to identify potential disease reservoirs and clarify transmission risks. Findings on zoonotic pathogens will inform targeted surveillance and early warning measures that are practical for Pakistan’s public health and conservation stakeholders.

The project applies an integrated One Health approach that recognises the interconnectedness of ecosystems and communities across Pakistan. Results are intended to support conservation strategies for wild carnivores while improving public health preparedness through evidence-based recommendations, risk mapping and strengthened laboratory capacity.

By combining fieldwork and laboratory science, this international partnership expects to generate data that can guide policymakers, wildlife managers and health officials. Emphasis on zoonotic pathogens in local contexts aims to build sustainable surveillance networks and promote collaborative research that benefits both biodiversity conservation and human health in Pakistan.

COMSATS and a French partner launch field research on zoonotic pathogens in carnivore scats to boost surveillance, conservation and public health in Pakistan.

[94

post-12769","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
["GET
