The Convenor highlighted that the incremental cost per 20-kg flour bag is minimal, framing fortification as a high-impact investment in national health and human capital.

Members of Parliament reiterated their commitment to close the gap between legislation and implementation, noting that strong enforcement, transparent quality assurance and sustained behaviour change communication will be essential. Participants agreed that public confidence must be built through clear communication, engagement with religious scholars and partnerships with community leaders to ensure food fortification is understood as a health and development measure.

Speakers observed that engagement strategies that work in Islamabad may differ from those needed in rural districts, and that localized approaches will be key to scaling food fortification nationwide. The meeting was attended by MNAs Ms. Asia Naz Tanoli, Mr. Sher Ali Arbab, Barrister Danyal Chaudhary, Mr. Riaz Fatyana, Mr. Tahir Iqbal, Ms. Nuzhat Sadiq, Ms. Zeb Jaffar, Syed Qasim Ali Gillani, Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti and Senator Afnanullah Khan.

The Parliamentary Taskforce said it will continue advocacy and coordination with industry, development partners and provincial authorities to accelerate food fortification as a central element of Pakistan’s strategy to meet SDG2 and improve nutrition outcomes nationwide.

Parliament advances food fortification in Islamabad to cut micronutrient deficiencies and meet SDG2 through multi-sector action and public outreach.

[94

post-13380","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
["GET
