{"id":13719,"date":"2025-11-05T12:32:53","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T12:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.peakpoint.pk\/en\/2025\/11\/05\/punjab-parliamentarians-drive-child-marriage-reform\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T12:32:53","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T12:32:53","slug":"punjab-parliamentarians-drive-child-marriage-reform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.peakpoint.pk\/en\/2025\/11\/05\/punjab-parliamentarians-drive-child-marriage-reform\/","title":{"rendered":"Punjab Parliamentarians Drive Child Marriage Reform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UNFPA<\/strong> with support from <strong>UKAid<\/strong> is facilitating a three-day exposure visit for a delegation of eight Punjab MPAs to Sindh to learn from the province&#8217;s experience in implementing the Child Marriage Restraint Act 2013 and to build momentum for the passage of the Child Marriage Bill in Punjab.<\/p>\n<p>On the first day the parliamentarians visited the Koohi Goth Fistula Center, where they observed the severe health consequences that often follow child marriage. Meeting fistula patients gave the delegation a close view of how obstetric injuries sustained by very young mothers can alter lives and strain families, reinforcing the urgent need for stronger safeguards against child marriage.<\/p>\n<p>The MPs also held a session with the Honorable Chief Minister of Sindh <strong>Syed Murad Ali Shah<\/strong>, who briefed them on the legal and institutional measures Sindh has put in place. The visit allowed the Punjab representatives to see how legislation and local implementation work together to address child marriage and its health and social impacts.<\/p>\n<p>By combining firsthand exposure at a health facility with briefings on Sindh&#8217;s legislative approach, the visit is expected to inform parliamentary debate and galvanize support for the Child Marriage Bill in Punjab.
