The OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation hosted an international dialogue at its Secretariat in Islamabad to map a roadmap for Higher Education and science across member states. The event convened scholars, policymakers, university leaders and diplomats to discuss innovation, equity and the evolving skills needed for the next generation.<\/p>\n
Prof. Dr. Bibi Ameenah Firdaus Gurib-Fakim<\/strong>, former President of Mauritius, delivered the keynote and urged deeper global collaboration in science, higher education and technology to confront challenges such as climate change, food security and energy transition. She called on developing nations to invest in innovation ecosystems that empower youth and support inclusive development across the Islamic world.<\/p>\n Prof. Dr. Shahid Mahmud<\/strong> presented a forward-looking talk on AI Connecting Humans with Nature Skills<\/em>, stressing the intersection of artificial intelligence, natural systems and human creativity. He emphasised that preparing Gen Alpha requires adaptive, hybrid skill sets that allow young people to work alongside intelligent technologies while retaining strong links to nature and local knowledge.<\/p>\n Prof. Dr. Syed Sohail Hussain Naqvi<\/strong> outlined how universities must become engines of economic transformation, turning traditional Higher Education institutions into dynamic ecosystems of knowledge creation, entrepreneurship and societal impact. His remarks highlighted the need for curriculum reform, research-commercialisation pathways and stronger industry-academia partnerships to spur local economies.<\/p>\n Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary<\/strong>, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, welcomed participants and framed the dialogue around education equity, quality improvement and international cooperation for sustainable development. He reiterated that education and science remain the most powerful tools for social transformation and noted that socioeconomic progress now relies more on knowledge and innovation than on natural resources, citing global examples of education-led growth.<\/p>\n The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof. Dr. Mudassir Asrar<\/strong>, a group photograph and a hi-tea.
