At COP30 in Bel\u00e9m Pakistan took a visible step to show how climate finance can be directed to strengthen water, sanitation and hygiene systems, highlighting the need to bridge a gap often missing from global adaptation conversations. The focus on Climate Resilient WASH aims to ensure that investments in basic services also build long-term resilience to climate shocks.<\/p>\n
WaterAid Pakistan hosted a side event titled “Financing Climate-Resilient WASH: Towards Pakistan\u2019s CR-WASH Finance Strategy” that brought together voices from the Ministry of Climate Change, the Government of Pakistan, the Pakistan Climate Change Authority and international partners to explore practical financing pathways. Participants discussed how climate finance mechanisms can support resilient, inclusive and equitable WASH investments across Pakistan\u2019s vulnerable regions.<\/p>\n
The dialogue underscored Pakistan\u2019s leadership in developing a national Climate-Resilient WASH finance strategy designed to align WASH priorities with the National Climate Finance Strategy and the country\u2019s NDC commitments. Speakers emphasized that aligning these frameworks can ensure every rupee and dollar invested contributes to durable climate resilience in communities dependent on reliable water and sanitation services.<\/p>\n
Speakers and panellists included Muhammad Rafiq from the Pakistan Climate Change Authority, Darren Karjama of the Green Climate Fund, Aisha Jamshed from Welthungerhilfe Pakistan, Sohail Malik representing CRCC\u2013NRSP and Jack Wakefield of WaterAid. Their contributions shaped a constructive conversation on unlocking adaptation finance for WASH and on practical steps to embed Climate Resilient WASH in national planning and funding pipelines.<\/p>\n
Delegates noted that Pakistan\u2019s CR-WASH Finance Strategy can serve as a model for integrating WASH into adaptation finance at scale, reinforcing WaterAid\u2019s global advocacy for recognising WASH within the Global Goal on Adaptation.
