On November 14, 2025, the Expanded Programme on Immunization Gilgit-Baltistan, supported by UNICEF, held an awareness session at Karakoram International University in Gilgit to prepare students and faculty for the MR Campaign and strengthen community support for measles and rubella vaccination.<\/p>\n
The event drew active participation from faculty members and a large number of students across departments, signaling strong local interest in public health action. Dr. Arif<\/strong>, Advisor to the Vice Chancellor, welcomed the EPI team and praised the decision to use KIU as a platform to engage young people, noting that universities play a key role in shaping responsible citizens who can carry accurate MR Campaign messages into their communities.<\/p>\n Technical presentations by Dr. Muharram Ali<\/strong> and Jan Muhammad<\/strong> provided an in-depth overview of the MR Campaign, covering target age groups, vaccination strategies and expected outcomes. They highlighted the dangers of measles, which can lead to pneumonia, brain infections and severe dehydration, and explained how rubella poses serious risks to pregnant women and newborns, stressing the protective value of prompt vaccination.<\/p>\n Dr. Sher Wali<\/strong>, Dean of Biological Sciences, urged students to act as health ambassadors and to actively support immunization efforts both inside the university and in surrounding communities. His remarks underlined that youth engagement is critical to achieving the high coverage the MR Campaign requires to prevent outbreaks.<\/p>\n The session concluded with closing comments from Mubashir Hussain<\/strong>, C4D Consultant at EPI GB, who thanked the Dean, faculty and especially the students for their participation.
