Senior representatives from ESSIs in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa convened to strengthen institutional coordination and improve delivery for millions of insured workers and their families.

Participants emphasized the need for stronger institutional alignment and renewed attention to professional safety and health so that social protection services remain timely, prevention-oriented and of consistent quality. The discussions prioritized bolstering OSH systems in ESSI-run hospitals and clinics, improving governance, expanding services and enhancing coordination across provincial social security bodies.

ILO Pakistan country director stressed that ESSIs are the frontline protecting millions of workers and their families and that ensuring safety and health standards for healthcare staff is essential to guarantee quality services and advance the decent work agenda. This message underlined the practical and ethical dimensions of ongoing OSH reform.

Professor Dr Shehzad Ali Khan, Vice Chancellor of the Health Services Academy, described the dialogue as a timely opportunity to share knowledge, refine service delivery and mainstream OSH across both social security institutions and the wider health workforce. He highlighted the role of cross-provincial collaboration in accelerating improvements.

Muhammad Ali, Commissioner PESSI, noted that through collaboration with the ILO, PESSI has implemented the HealthWISE toolkit in its hospitals and is already seeing improvements in ergonomics, safe waste management and staff OSH training. He reiterated PESSI’s commitment to scale up these measures and partner with other social protection agencies to extend benefits to more insured workers.

The Working for Health programme, supported by international partners including the ILO, OECD and WHO in Pakistan, has assisted social security institutions in strengthening workplace safety, improving service delivery systems and equipping health professionals and managers with practical tools and knowledge. Such support is central to sustained OSH reform and to aligning local practices with international standards.

Participants agreed that institutional capacity building, shared learning and continued implementation of practical tools like HealthWISE will be key to improving patient care, protecting healthcare staff and moving Pakistan’s social protection system toward a more effective, prevention-focused model in line with global social security objectives.

Stakeholders drive OSH reform to improve social security health services and protect insured workers across Pakistan.

[94

post-14861","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
["GET
