Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani<\/strong>, Chairman Senate, addressed a joint sitting of Parliament at the Parliament House in Islamabad on 02 December 2025 and reaffirmed his enduring commitment to the welfare of women and minority communities. He recalled that even during his tenure as Prime Minister his guiding principle was that “women and minorities are my constituency”<\/em>, a stance he said continues to guide his work in the Upper House.<\/p>\n

Gilani told members that a Minorities Caucus<\/strong> has been established in the Senate to provide more focused advocacy and protection for minority rights. He described the caucus as a mechanism to strengthen legislative attention to issues affecting religious minorities and women, and to ensure their concerns are raised consistently in parliamentary debate and lawmaking.<\/p>\n

The chairman reminded the House of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah\u2019s intent in including the white section on the national flag to represent religious minorities, underlining their integral role in Pakistan\u2019s national fabric. He said the new Minorities Caucus<\/strong> seeks to translate that symbolism into concrete parliamentary action and better safeguards for vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n

During his remarks, the Chairman asked the Minister for Law whether reservations voiced by some members and by the President had been addressed. The Law Minister provided assurances that the matters under discussion were being attended to, signaling government readiness to follow up on legal and procedural issues raised in the House.
