She described ongoing efforts by the ministry, in coordination with relevant agencies, to fortify legal safeguards and make the complaints system more effective for ordinary citizens.<\/p>\n
The minister explained that several amendments to the criminal procedure framework have been introduced to ensure easier access to justice and to reflect the government\u2019s commitment to legal modernization and transparent governance. Parliament is considering the adoption of life imprisonment as an alternative to the death penalty for certain offences, a step presented as part of broader alignment with international human rights standards.<\/p>\n
Institutional reform and governance measures were also highlighted, with the minister saying these steps complement Pakistan\u2019s engagement with international trade preference programmes while reinforcing human rights protections. She emphasised the role of independent commissions including the National Commission for Human Rights, the National Commission on the Status of Women, the National Commission on the Rights of the Child and the Commission for the Protection of Journalists in sustaining accountability.<\/p>\n
The minister referenced the recent approval of the National Commission for Minorities bill as a positive development for minority rights, a point welcomed by the French ambassador. Both sides underlined the need for a comprehensive mechanism to prevent misuse of laws, including measures for impartial investigations, witness protection and fair legal process to safeguard vulnerable groups.
