The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad opened the Greyhound Derby at the Tent Pegging Ground, where some 60 greyhounds drew large interest from enthusiasts and local visitors. The event was organised by the Directorate of Farms at UAF in collaboration with Gill Kennel and showcased a lively display of country and around-bred dogs.<\/p>\n
Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali<\/strong>, Vice Chancellor of UAF, said the university sees itself as a custodian of rural culture and that events such as the Greyhound Derby offer valuable entertainment while reinforcing links between farmers and agricultural scientists. He emphasised that cultural competitions help bridge practical knowledge and community tradition.<\/p>\n The vice chancellor reiterated that, as the first agricultural institution in the subcontinent, UAF continues to take practical steps to address agrarian challenges and to promote activities that keep rural heritage alive. The Greyhound Derby was highlighted as one of the initiatives contributing to that mission.<\/p>\n Dr Muhammad Aslam<\/strong>, Director Farms, explained the derby was organised to present golden moments of rural life to participants and spectators and to strengthen the ties between farmers and research staff. The event provided an informal setting for dialogue and exchange on matters relevant to rural livelihoods.<\/p>\n Dr Haroon Zaman<\/strong>, chief organiser, noted that countrybred and locally reared greyhounds were competing in what the university observes as an annual ritual.
