Held as part of the 16-day global campaign to end gender-based violence, the event highlighted rising incidents of online harassment, cyberstalking, unauthorised sharing of images and other technology-enabled abuse that undermine participation in social, economic and political life.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Secretary for Human Rights, Abdul Khaliq Sheikh, told attendees that the government is committed to protecting every citizen&#8217;s digital rights and that ensuring women and girls safe and equal access to the online world remains a top priority. The message underlined the need for coherent policy measures at all levels to strengthen digital safety.<\/p>\n<p>Norway&#8217;s ambassador, HE Per Albert Ilsaas, reaffirmed Norway&#8217;s long-standing support for gender equality, digital rights and human dignity. He emphasised that confronting online violence requires policy dialogue, state action and broad collaboration across public, private and civil society actors to build a secure digital environment.<\/p>\n<p>Legal Aid Society CEO Haya Iman Zahid welcomed participants and urged attention to victim-centred support systems, stronger laws and practical measures for digital protection. The programme opened with awareness videos based on real cases of digital abuse, illustrating the real-world impact and the urgent need for comprehensive responses that prioritise digital safety.<\/p>\n<p>Under the chairmanship of journalist Maira Imran, a panel featuring experts from law enforcement, international agencies and civil society examined different dimensions of online violence. Panelists included Pari Gul from Islamabad Police, Nargis Raza of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, Nadia Tariq Ali from UNDP and Dilshad Pari of UNFPA, who discussed investigation challenges, support mechanisms and cross-sector coordination to address digital harms.<\/p>\n<p>A second session chaired by Maliha Zia focused on technology-based solutions. Contributors such as Inam Baloch of the Digital Rights Foundation, Usama Khalji, a Google Pakistan representative, Sadaf Khan from Media Matters for Democracy and Asim Ghaffar of the Public Interest Law Association of Pakistan explored tools for prevention, digital literacy initiatives and platform accountability as part of a wider strategy to improve digital safety.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers collectively urged policymakers, tech companies, law enforcement and civil society to move from discussion to action, stressing that policies, legal frameworks and victim-focused services must evolve alongside technology.
