A Turkish business delegation held talks with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan to explore avenues for increased Turkish investment in Pakistan. The meeting brought together CEOs of PIDC, SMEDA and the Engineering Development Board along with representatives from both the private and public sectors to deliberate concrete measures for collaboration.<\/p>\n
Participants focused on creating joint ventures, improving investment facilitation and extending banking support to Turkish investors. Haroon Akhtar Khan said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif aims to further strengthen ties with brotherly countries, and that Pakistan is committed to making Turkish investment smoother and more attractive.<\/p>\n
Current bilateral trade stands at around one billion dollars, and both sides agreed there is capacity to expand this to five billion dollars through targeted projects and investor support. The Turkish delegation indicated interest from major textile brands, including LCW, in entering the Pakistani market, and formally requested permission to open Turkish banks in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore.<\/p>\n
To address these requests, authorities confirmed that letters of credit and other banking facilities for Turkish investors will be facilitated, and a special committee has been established to oversee investor needs. Pakistani officials stressed that regulatory reforms are being introduced to create easier conditions for doing business and to provide clear banking support for cross\u2011border trade.<\/p>\n
Officials noted that Pakistan\u2019s land lease policy is structured to help investors set up industries and that a national industrial policy, prepared under the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, includes provisions aimed at easing investor entry and operations. The Turkish delegation also expressed interest in accelerating the Istanbul\u2013Tehran\u2013Islamabad trade corridor to boost regional connectivity and commerce.<\/p>\n
