Ambassador Sayed Adil Gilani received Shaheryar Memon, focal person to the Chairman of the Prime Minister\u2019s Youth Program (PMYP), and his delegation at the Pakistan Embassy in Rabat ahead of their participation in the Islamic African Arab Dialogue on Democracy, Peace and Security. The meeting provided a platform to discuss the PMYP\u2019s vision for boosting Pakistan\u2019s global trade footprint and to review bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n
During the briefing, Shaheryar Memon outlined PMYP activities aimed at promoting Pakistani products and strengthening business links. He noted that Pakistan Morocco trade has expanded in recent years, with bilateral exchanges reaching roughly $800 million and ambitions to surpass $1 billion through deeper commercial engagement and targeted initiatives.<\/p>\n
Memon highlighted Morocco\u2019s strategic network of free trade agreements that position it as an effective gateway for Pakistani goods into European and African markets. Pakistan\u2019s exports to Morocco rose from $24.85 million in 2018 to $32.06 million in 2022, while Morocco\u2019s shipments of phosphates and fertilizers contributed to a significant trade balance in Morocco\u2019s favour in 2021.<\/p>\n
Both sides discussed practical measures to unlock further trade potential, including proposals for direct flights, trade delegations and cultural promotions such as the Biryani Festival to showcase Pakistani rice. Key traded items remain textiles, apparel, surgical goods and pharmaceuticals from Pakistan, and phosphoric acid, DAP fertilizers and rock phosphates from Morocco.<\/p>\n
The delegation identified emerging opportunities in renewable energy, information technology, agriculture, tourism, mining and logistics. Memon urged Pakistani business leaders to pursue joint ventures leveraging Morocco\u2019s FTAs with Europe, 54 African countries and Turkey, and called on Pakistani chambers to push for MoUs and focused delegations under the Look Africa policy using Morocco as an entry point.<\/p>\n
Delegation members and the ambassador also noted that Morocco\u2019s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup offers tourism and commercial opportunities that could raise Pakistan\u2019s profile and create avenues for sporting and business exchange.
