He warned that many public and private hospitals are overwhelmed and argued that strengthening primary care through digital channels will relieve pressure on major facilities.

The project will formally launch in Islamabad on January 6 with the first BHU going live, followed by the opening of one BHU each week. Telemedicine systems are planned for six locations in Islamabad and four in Karachi, with three general physicians consulting patients simultaneously via video at each facility. According to the plan, online prescriptions will be issued and medicines provided on-site to make care seamless for patients.

Officials noted that roughly 70 percent of cases now seen at tertiary hospitals could be managed at primary care centres, and the telemedicine Pakistan rollout is expected to produce a visible reduction in hospital crowding. The programme also aims to bring many qualified doctors back into active practice, highlighting that female physicians will be able to consult patients remotely from their homes.

Framed as the first practical step in a wider transformation, the MoU underscores the government’s intent to use digital health solutions to strengthen primary healthcare, expand access to quality medical advice, and improve service delivery across Pakistan.

Telemedicine Pakistan expands as the Ministry and Sehat Kahani launch digital services at BHUs to reduce hospital overcrowding and enable online prescriptions.

[94

post-15425","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
["GET
