The volume China’s Globalization and the New World Order prompted discussion on how the China rise is offering the Global South alternatives to Western-dominated norms.

Speakers noted that Beijing’s approach emphasizes equality, non-interference and state-led development, targeting inclusive governance and partnerships rather than outright confrontation. Ambassador Syed Abrar Hussain described a shift from leveraging economic dividends to actively shaping global governance, with initiatives aimed at a second wave of economic globalization and advancement of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He also warned that China faces hurdles such as a slowing domestic economy, new high-tech export tariffs and growing geopolitical tensions.

Prof Adam Saud said the book moves beyond the status quo versus revisionist framing and provides an interdisciplinary assessment of the China rise and its implications for global governance. Dr Najimdeen Bakare argued that China’s state-led development model presents a normative alternative to Western paradigms and, drawing on classical theories of civilizational cycles, contributes materially and intellectually to changing global norms.

Ambassador Naghmana Hashmi observed that many contemporary global institutions were shaped by colonial and post‑colonial powers and are now showing structural limits as middle powers gain influence. Prof Manzoor Afridi traced China’s evolution from a revolutionary actor to an integrated global partner, noting that in its neighborhood China often appears as a collaborator rather than a threat and continues to invoke its five principles of peaceful coexistence.

Participants highlighted the growing influence of what some refer to as a Beijing Consensus, visible in infrastructure and connectivity projects that present a practical development model for many countries. Dr Farhat Taj said the book is timely for policymakers and the public, and recommended further research on disinformation, hybrid warfare and the role of non state actors in great power competition as part of understanding the broader implications of the China rise.

Khalid Rahman emphasized that China’s civilizational worldview underpins its foreign policy choices and that multipolarity is now inevitable, creating more options for states. For Pakistan, speakers stressed the importance of a multi alignment strategy to avoid overdependence on any single power while engaging with opportunities presented by the changing global order.

The seminar underscored the expanding role of think tanks and academic institutions in shaping narratives as global power dynamics shift, and called for sober policy discussion in Islamabad on how best to navigate the opportunities and risks of a world shaped by the China rise.

Experts say China rise is reshaping global governance and offering new choices to the Global South as multipolarity advances and Pakistan weighs multi-alignment.

[94

post-15843","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
["GET
