Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq said the project, initiated during his earlier tenure and approved by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, experienced delays but is now nearing completion.

The new campus is expected to transform the university from a hospital centered facility into a comprehensive medical university, improving academic space, clinical teaching capacity and research infrastructure as part of the broader SZABMU expansion roadmap.

To address gaps in clinical exposure for Pakistani students who study abroad, particularly in Tajikistan, SZABMU is launching a paid three month elective and clinical training program. The initiative will allow students to return during summer breaks for hands on rotations at SZABMU affiliated hospitals to better prepare for the National Registration Examination (NRE).

On finances the university reported a total annual budget of Rs 370 million, with Rs 250 million self generated and Rs 120 million provided by the Higher Education Commission. SZABMU has grown rapidly from an initial intake of 300 transferred students to around 10,000 students across 60 disciplines, including 14 undergraduate and nearly 45 postgraduate programs, and has submitted proposals for 15 PhD programs to the HEC.

Modernization efforts include a transition to a fully digital examination system and upgrades in molecular genetics and stem cell research. In partnership with the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, the university will introduce training modules in robotic surgery, while international research collaboration with UNESCO will focus on infectious diseases.

SZABMU has also revived international academic links, signing memoranda of understanding with institutions in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka. Under an agreement with a university in Liverpool, students will receive specialized emergency medicine training in the UK.

Emphasizing community engagement, the university is offering free Basic Life Support training to journalists, educational institutions and other groups. Master trainers have already been certified at Rawalpindi Medical University and similar sessions can be arranged for media personnel.

The briefing ended with a question and answer session during which journalists noted improved stability and clearer planning at the university after years of administrative uncertainty under acting leaderships. The SZABMU expansion and program reforms aim to strengthen Pakistan’s medical education and clinical training capacity in the years ahead.

SZABMU expansion advances with a July campus move, digital exams, and new clinical training for foreign graduates to boost licensing success.

[94

post-16384","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
["GET
