On 22 January 2026 the Young Parliamentarians Forum convened a detailed briefing with the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control at Parliament House, Islamabad to review youth-centric anti narcotics initiatives and strengthen coordinated responses across the country.<\/p>\n
Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar<\/strong>, President of the Young Parliamentarians Forum, chaired the session and underlined that drug abuse and narcotics trafficking present social, public health and national security challenges that disproportionately affect Pakistan\u2019s youth, who make up a large share of the population.<\/p>\n Brigadier Syed Imran Ali delivered the Ministry\u2019s briefing on behalf of the Secretary, accompanied by senior officers including Lt. Col. Taimur Niazi, Joint Director Enforcement, Mr. Shahzad Durrani, Joint Secretary, and Mr. Muhammad Tariq, Director (Law). The presentation outlined preventive, rehabilitative and enforcement strategies such as awareness and education campaigns, community-based interventions, treatment and rehabilitation mechanisms, and targeted action against organized narcotics trafficking networks. Officials also flagged emerging threats including synthetic drugs, poly-drug use, cross-border trafficking and the misuse of digital platforms for narcotics-related activity.<\/p>\n Members raised concerns about the availability and geographic coverage of rehabilitation facilities, the need for robust post-rehabilitation reintegration support, and improved inter-agency coordination and federal\u2013provincial collaboration in the post\u201318th Amendment framework. Representatives from the Women Parliamentary Caucus stressed the indirect but profound impact of drug abuse on women, children and families and called for gender-sensitive, youth-responsive policies as part of any anti narcotics strategy.<\/p>\n President YPF Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar reiterated the forum\u2019s commitment to bolster national efforts through legislation, parliamentary oversight, budgetary scrutiny and constituency-level advocacy, and she emphasized sustained parliamentary\u2013executive engagement to improve policy outcomes.
