Rawalpindi Women University has been a driving partner in the international Partnership in Equality (PIE) initiative, focused on advancing Women in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence between the UK and Pakistan. The PIE project has earned the first-ever Going Global Partnerships Award from the British Council UK, a recognition that highlights collective work to open STEM pathways for women across Pakistan.<\/p>\n
The award was chosen from 105 nominations worldwide and signals global acknowledgement of meaningful collaboration. The PIE partnership has provided targeted training, mentorship and career-building opportunities in Robotics and AI, strengthening prospects for female students and staff at Pakistani institutions.<\/p>\n
Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza<\/strong>, Vice Chancellor of RWU, was formally acknowledged during the recognition event held at the National University of Sciences & Technology in Islamabad. In honour of her early leadership in the project, Prof. Dr. Anila Kamal<\/strong>, Founding Vice Chancellor of RWU, received a special invitation for her role in initiating and supporting women-led academic initiatives tied to the PIE goals.<\/p>\n RWU also recognized the essential contributions of Prof. Dr. Saima Mustafa<\/strong>, Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics, and Dr. Deeba Afzal<\/strong>, the project focal person, whose commitment helped ensure the successful implementation of activities across partner campuses. Special appreciation was extended to key project leads Dr. Shadan Khan Khattak<\/strong> from Cardiff Metropolitan University and Dr. Farkhanda Afzal<\/strong> from NUST for steering the project toward international recognition.<\/p>\n The PIE partnership has reached more than 300 female students and staff across nine higher education institutions in Pakistan, including women-only universities, by delivering practical training and mentorship in Robotics and AI. This work supports Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality by building pipelines for women into technology and research roles.<\/p>\n The Going Global Partnerships Award was formally presented in London on 28 October 2025 and the achievement was later recognised at a ceremony at the NUST Auditorium on 20 January 2026.
