The Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture at PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, in partnership with Olive Culture Scale-Up, organised an international workshop on 4th February 2026 to promote olive nutrition and sustainable food systems. The event drew faculty members, researchers, students, farmers and agriculture professionals, focusing on the nutritional importance of olives and practical steps to expand olive cultivation across Pakistan.<\/p>\n
Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman<\/strong>, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR, addressed the gathering and highlighted the vast potential of olive cultivation in Pakistan. He stressed the need for targeted research, farmer awareness and adoption of modern production techniques to strengthen food security and increase farmers\u2019 income while emphasising the role of olive nutrition in healthier diets.<\/p>\n International expert Dr. Francesco De Musso<\/strong> led sessions on the health and nutritional value of olives, underlining olive oil as a global dietary staple and its benefits for public health. Dr. Muhammad Nouman<\/strong>, Head of Quality and Sensory Evaluation, explained sensory and analytical methods to identify high-quality olive oil, equipping participants with tools to raise product standards and market value.<\/p>\n Mr. Muhammad Arabi Awan<\/strong> discussed olive production and the crop\u2019s role in climate-resilient agriculture, linking olive cultivation to environmental sustainability and landscape restoration. The programme concluded with an interactive question and answer session, a vote of thanks by Prof. Dr Muhammad Azam Khan<\/strong>, and a symbolic olive plantation to underscore the workshop\u2019s focus on practical outcomes.<\/p>\n Participants described the workshop as a meaningful step toward expanding olive research and sustainable agricultural development in Pakistan.
