In Islamabad, Federal Parliamentary Secretary Barrister Danyal Chaudhry<\/strong> used a keynote address at the National Child Convention organised by the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services to set out a coordinated plan for digital safety targeting young Pakistanis.<\/p>\n

He argued that digital safety should be seen as an essential foundation for learning and expression rather than a limiting force, stressing that keeping children away from online spaces is not a sustainable solution. “Rather than keeping children away from the digital world, providing them with guided protection is the sustainable solution,” he said, highlighting the need for guidance alongside access.<\/p>\n

Chaotic online harms such as cyberbullying, inappropriate content, deepfakes and harassment were described as pressing challenges that require a collective response. Parents, educators, regulators and technology platforms were urged to work together to reduce risks while preserving children’s rights to learn and communicate in digital environments.<\/p>\n

The Parliamentary Secretary pledged to strengthen legal frameworks to address emerging AI risks and to increase accountability for digital platforms. He connected immediate measures on digital safety to the Prime Minister’s long-term vision for a $1 billion investment in a national Artificial Intelligence ecosystem by 2030, saying robust protections are necessary for Pakistan to realise the full benefits of AI-driven growth.<\/p>\n

Importantly, Chaudhry committed to including children’s perspectives in policymaking so the digital environment is shaped with young people in mind. He closed by urging young citizens to adopt responsible online behaviour and to report suspicious activities to help build a safer, informed and empowering online space for all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
