Convened by the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights under Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan and organised with Anthro Insights, the event focused on turning children’s voices into actionable policy.

Speakers stressed that Child Rights demand cross-party legislative commitment and collaborative federal-provincial action. The Minister of State for Law & Justice, Barrister Aqeel Malik, highlighted the need to safeguard children’s digital freedoms while tackling cyberbullying, AI misuse and disinformation through legislation, oversight and a comprehensive policy framework.

Parliamentary Secretary Danyal Chaudhary described the government’s approach as building “shields, not walls” to protect children online without restricting access to knowledge. He underlined the urgency of IT-based education so young people can identify manipulated content and deepfakes, and he pointed to the Cyber Agahi Programme as a vehicle for digital safety awareness and curriculum integration. Measures such as ethical AI practices and watermarking of AI-generated content were also emphasised to protect children from harmful material.

Climate and youth skills were core topics of discussion. Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, urged investment in AI and digital skills for youth while urging small but meaningful actions on energy conservation and plastic reduction. Programmes like the She Power initiative in Balochistan were cited as examples of targeted support for underprivileged girls and community health services.

Children from climate-affected areas, notably Tharparkar, described heat-related illnesses, lack of electricity in schools and the urgent need for sustainable energy, clean drinking water and a healthier environment. Delegates called for mental health support, access to quality healthcare and education, and protection from violence and exploitation as central elements of Child Rights implementation.

Nabeela Ayoub Khan, Convenor of the Child Rights Caucus in the AJK Assembly, pressed for inclusive, child-centred policies across Parliament and provincial and legislative assemblies, drawing attention to disparities affecting children in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir and urging stronger advocacy online for the right to education and dignity. Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro paid tribute to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and encouraged youth to learn the Constitution and exercise their rights actively.

Speakers from Sindh and Balochistan emphasised the central role of teachers and the need for increased investment in education and health to unlock children’s potential, particularly in underserved regions. Former MNA Zamurd Khan lauded the caucus for fostering parliamentary and provincial cooperation to advance Child Rights through a unified national approach.

The Convention concluded with a clear call to action: to translate children’s concerns into concrete laws, education reforms and technology-driven safeguards so that Child Rights are protected in classrooms, communities and digital spaces across Pakistan.

Child Rights advocates and youth call for safe digital spaces, climate action, and inclusive education at Childrens Convention 2026.
