Speakers included H.E. Reza Amiri-Moghaddam, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman Board of Governors ISSI, and Dr. Amina Khan, Director CAMEA.

Ambassador Reza Amiri-Moghaddam highlighted the long common border and deep people-to-people links that connect Pakistan and Iran, noting that together they account for nearly 350 million people. He said complementary economic structures and strategic geography create extensive opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation and that Pakistan Iran relations are now in one of their most constructive phases in recent decades.

The ambassador pointed to a surge in diplomatic engagement: more than 25 high-level delegations over two years, the signing of 25 agreements and memoranda of understanding across sectors, two presidential visits from Iran, and visits by parliamentary and security leaders. He also underlined shared positions on key regional issues, including Palestine, and stressed the need for coordinated action to confront terrorism and separatist threats.

Ambassador Khalid Mahmood recalled historical ties predating Pakistan’s creation and Iran’s early recognition of the country, while noting Tehran’s support during the 1965 and 1971 conflicts. He acknowledged challenging phases in the relationship but said Pakistan and Iran are closer than ever, committed to addressing terrorism and sectarianism through dialogue and cooperation.

Dr. Amina Khan emphasised sustained high-level engagement and close coordination on regional and international developments, citing alignment on Afghanistan and the crisis in Gaza as examples of converging positions. She noted Pakistan’s condemnation of what it described as reckless military strikes that threatened regional stability, reaffirming the mutual commitment to sovereignty and international law.

The speakers also highlighted multilateral platforms that reinforce bilateral ties, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Economic Cooperation Organization and the D-8. Ambassador Reza pointed to the wider regional economic potential, observing that Pakistan and Iran together represent a market approaching two billion consumers when considered alongside neighbouring Turkey.

The session drew diplomats, academics, students, practitioners and civil society members and concluded with an engaging question and answer exchange. Discussions reinforced that Pakistan Iran relations offer significant prospects for enhanced trade, connectivity and joint efforts to preserve regional stability while addressing common security challenges.

Pakistan Iran relations are strengthening through high-level visits, 25 agreements and regional cooperation to boost security and economic ties.

[94

post-17199","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-pakistan
["GET
