NDMA and UNFPA convened the first Gender Based Violence Sub-Working Group meeting of 2026 to coordinate prevention, mitigation and survivor-centered support across Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and emergency response systems. The meeting brought together more than 50 humanitarian partners including government departments, UN agencies and civil society organisations to bolster collective action on gender-based violence.<\/p>\n
The Group emphasised the need for gender-responsive and community-sensitive approaches so that humanitarian interventions better protect women, girls and other at-risk groups during crises. Partners discussed integrating protection measures into contingency planning and strengthening local capacities to deliver timely services.<\/p>\n
GBV response<\/strong> and access to sexual and reproductive health services emerged as central priorities. Dr Gulnara Kadyrkulova, UNFPA Deputy Representative, highlighted the importance of prioritising sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and GBV response services in emergencies to ensure survivors receive timely, confidential and comprehensive care.<\/p>\n Participants underlined coordination between government departments, UN agencies and CSOs as essential to maintaining survivor-centered referral pathways, pre-positioning supplies and training first responders.
