Young Pharmacists Community Pakistan held a briefing at the Peshawar Press Club today to highlight what it called systemic neglect of pharmacists within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s healthcare system.<\/p>\n
Speakers at the briefing sharply criticized the Health Department for excluding pharmacists from policy implementation, recruitment drives and key decision-making forums. They warned that sidelining pharmacy professionals undermines safe healthcare delivery and places patient lives at serious risk.<\/p>\n
The organisation said the absence of qualified pharmacy staff in hospitals is already contributing to a rise in medication errors, the spread of counterfeit and substandard medicines, and an increased threat of antimicrobial resistance. Concerns were also raised about irrational drug use, poor drug storage practices, inadequate therapeutic monitoring and the misuse of antibiotics across health facilities.<\/p>\n
YPC representatives asked who in the Health Department will be held responsible for these failures and why public health is being jeopardised by ignoring the professional role of pharmacists. They also pointed out that routine vacancy announcements from the department have not contained a single post for pharmacists, calling this systematic exclusion a clear policy failure.<\/p>\n
The group recalled that the Pharmacy Services Policy was approved by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet in October 2025 after sustained advocacy by Young Pharmacists Community Pakistan, yet five to six months have passed without meaningful implementation. YPC demanded immediate measures to put the policy into practice and to advertise Pharmacists Khyber Pakhtunkhwa posts in public sector hospitals.<\/p>\n
Young Pharmacists Community Pakistan issued a one-month ultimatum to the provincial government and the Health Department to begin implementation and announce pharmacist positions.
