At the Eurasia Higher Education Summit in Istanbul, Pakistan demonstrated a new level of strategic engagement in education diplomacy as a high-powered delegation led by the Association of Private Sector Universities of Pakistan (APSUP) attended EURIE 2026. The delegation of 42 members from 17 universities, joined by representatives from OIC-COMSTECH, showcased coordinated efforts to deepen international academic partnerships.<\/p>\n
Prof. Dr. Sumaira Rehman, Rector of Superior University and member of the Higher Education Commission Pakistan, delivered the inauguration keynote as the sole female speaker at the opening session. Her address underscored that “Pakistan has a compelling story to tell” and argued that education must cultivate ethical and responsible leaders. She introduced the “Leading with Character” framework as a model for embedding values alongside technical excellence in higher education.<\/p>\n
Following the keynote, the Pakistani delegation held a substantive meeting with Prof. Dr. Erol \u00d6zvar, President of the Council of Higher Education (Y\u00d6K). Conversations focused on expanding Pakistan-T\u00fcrkiye cooperation through joint research, faculty and student mobility, technology transfer, and participation in T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s 500 Research Projects Initiative. APSUP also extended an invitation for a high-level visit to Pakistan to sustain this momentum.<\/p>\n
The Pakistan Pavilion attracted steady international attention, becoming a focal point for discussions on collaboration. University leaders and delegations from Europe, Asia and the Americas explored partnership opportunities and discussed several Memorandums of Understanding and joint initiatives aimed at research collaboration and exchange programs.<\/p>\n
Senior figures from Arab and Eurasian academic organisations acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role and expressed interest in long-term cooperation. These responses reinforced the view that Pakistan’s approach to education diplomacy is increasingly being recognised across regions and sectors.<\/p>\n
By combining intellectual leadership with pragmatic engagement, Pakistan used EURIE 2026 to position itself as an emerging contributor to global higher education.
