{"id":18243,"date":"2026-04-20T20:22:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T20:22:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.peakpoint.pk\/en\/2026\/04\/20\/vance-led-us-team-en-route-to-islamabad-for-iran-talks-deal-to-be-signed-today-trump\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T20:23:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T20:23:08","slug":"vance-led-us-team-en-route-to-islamabad-for-iran-talks-deal-to-be-signed-today-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.peakpoint.pk\/en\/2026\/04\/20\/vance-led-us-team-en-route-to-islamabad-for-iran-talks-deal-to-be-signed-today-trump\/","title":{"rendered":"Vance led US team en route to Islamabad for Iran talks, deal to be signed \u2018today\u2019: Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By: <strong>Mahpara zaman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NEW YORK: United States President Donald Trump said on Monday that Vice President JD Vance and a US delegation were set to land in Pakistan within hours for talks on Iran and asserted that a deal would be signed &#8220;today&#8221;, adding that he would be willing to meet with Iranian leaders himself if progress was made.<br \/>\nAnadolu and Al Jazeera reported that Trump has told Fox News that the Iran deal would be signed \u201ctoday\u201d in Pakistan, adding on from an earlier interview with the New York Post in which he said Vance and the US delegation were on their way to Islamabad for the talks.<br \/>\nIn an interview with the New York Post, Trump said that he would be willing to meet with Iranian leaders himself if progress is made.<br \/>\nTrump said negotiations with Iran were expected to proceed, expressing confidence that talks would not collapse despite lingering uncertainty.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re supposed to have the talks,\u201d Trump said in a brief interview, brushing aside doubts about whether negotiations would fall apart. \u201cSo I would assume at this point nobody\u2019s playing games.\u201d<br \/>\nHe confirmed that a high-level US delegation \u2014 including JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner \u2014 is already en route to Islamabad for the next round of negotiations.<br \/>\n\u201cThey\u2019re heading over now,\u201d Trump said shortly after 9 am EST. \u201cThey\u2019ll be there tonight, [Islamabad] time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump also signalled openness to a potential face-to-face meeting with the Iranian leadership if an opportunity arises.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no problem meeting them,\u201d he said. \u201cIf they want to meet, and we have some very capable people, but I have no problem meeting them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the centre of the negotiations, Trump said, was a firm US demand that Iran abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGet rid of their nuclear weapons. That\u2019s all very simple,\u201d he said. \u201cThere will be no nuclear weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that Iran could prosper if it complies with this condition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOtherwise, a wonderful country \u2014 it truly could be,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>However, Trump declined to outline potential consequences if Tehran refuses to comply or if talks collapse, particularly as the ceasefire deadline approaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I don\u2019t want to get into that with you,\u201d he said when asked whether the US would escalate measures, such as seizing additional ships tied to Iran. \u201cYou can imagine.
