The Behtar Qadam initiative completed a strong first quarter across Punjab, holding 485 community events that engaged over 64,500 people in all 41 districts to promote informed choices about family health and planning.<\/p>\n
Led by the Punjab Health and Population Departments under the Punjab Family Planning Program (PFPP) and implemented with partners Rayn and RIZ Consulting, Behtar Qadam positions itself as a supportive guide focused on empowering youth rather than issuing directives. The initiative places young people at its centre, equipping future parents with essential reproductive health knowledge today.<\/p>\n
Events ranged from university sessions and Sehat Melas to community dialogues, family and couples meetings, youth forums and briefings with religious leaders, creating spaces where local communities could ask questions and discuss birth spacing and family wellbeing openly.<\/p>\n
A notable moment during the quarter was a high-level visit to an event in Multan by representatives of the World Bank, the project\u2019s main donor. During the session Dr Jahanzaib Sohail, Senior Health Economist at the World Bank, addressed university students with an appeal for personal responsibility and long-term thinking: If there\u2019s one thing that stays with you, let it be the importance of birth spacing. If it leads you to seek out more for yourself, that is where real impact begins.<\/em><\/p>\n Behtar Qadam emphasises birth spacing as essential for the health of mothers and children and works directly with couples, youth and community leaders to build awareness, answer questions and encourage balanced decision making.
