Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb briefed the visiting IMF mission on Pakistan’s macroeconomic outlook, fiscal strategy and the Government’s reform priorities as officials prepare the upcoming federal budget.<\/p>\n
Discussions with the IMF mission centred on macroeconomic stabilization efforts, measures to preserve fiscal and external sustainability, and a reform agenda designed to foster investment, productivity and export-led growth within a balanced policy framework.<\/p>\n
The Finance Minister welcomed the delegation and acknowledged the Fund’s continued engagement, noting productive exchanges carried forward from the Spring Meetings in Washington earlier this year.<\/p>\n
Senator Aurangzeb highlighted encouraging developments in the external sector, pointing to positive trends in remittances and an improvement in exports on both month-on-month and year-on-year bases, which he said reflect growing resilience and gradual strengthening of macro fundamentals.<\/p>\n
While recognizing the progress from stabilization measures, the minister underlined persistent structural challenges, including external liabilities, and stressed the urgency of accelerating sustainable export-led growth through productivity enhancement, deregulation and competitiveness improvements.<\/p>\n
He said the Government’s reform programme has been carefully calibrated with input from international experts and economists, and emphasised that current policy measures form part of a broader, technically grounded transformation strategy endorsed at the highest level.<\/p>\n
The briefing also covered Pakistan’s continued engagement with international development partners, including economic cooperation initiatives with China and efforts to mobilise long-term investment aligned with national priorities.<\/p>\n
The visiting IMF team, led by Mission Chief Ms. Iva Petrova, welcomed Pakistan’s progress in maintaining macro stability amid a challenging external environment and reiterated the importance of sustaining reform momentum, fiscal discipline and structural reforms to support durable and inclusive growth. The meeting included Governor State Bank of Pakistan Mr. Jameel Ahmad, Secretary Finance Division Mr. Imdad Ullah Bosal, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Mr. Rashid Mahmood Langrial and senior officials from the Finance and Revenue Division and the Tax Policy Office, and concluded with a shared commitment to continued engagement between the IMF mission and the Government of Pakistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
