Islamic Help UK and WWF-Pakistan have signed a three-year MoU in Islamabad to launch the Al Mizan Forest programme, a faith-informed initiative that combines community mobilisation with scientific conservation to tackle climate risks across Pakistan.<\/p>\n
The Al Mizan Forest is part of the global Trillion Trees movement and aims to go beyond planting by promoting holistic ecosystem restoration, sustainable livelihoods and long-term stewardship. The programme targets planting more than 2.7 million trees across roughly 1,700 hectares in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, prioritising resilient landscape recovery and community benefit.<\/p>\n
Under the 2026\u20132029 agreement, WWF-Pakistan will lead technical planning and on-ground implementation while Islamic Help UK will mobilise international resources and fundraising. Islamic Help will also collaborate with WWF to design and deliver values-driven education and awareness activities that link the Al Mizan Forest concept to local faith-inspired stewardship.<\/p>\n
The programme integrates a range of measures tailored to local contexts, including creation of a Green Waqf to protect restored areas, conservation zoning guided by traditional \u1e25ima and \u1e25ar\u012bm practices, community-centred agroforestry to support livelihoods, establishment of wildlife corridors to improve habitat connectivity, and water recharge systems to strengthen hydrological resilience. Activities will actively engage youth, volunteers, educators and local leaders to embed ownership and continuity.<\/p>\n
Kamran Shezad<\/strong>, Advisor Climate Action at Islamic Help UK, said the initiative reconnects environmental responsibility with values of balance, stewardship and collective action while reinvigorating eco-spirituality within communities. Rab Nawaz<\/strong>, Senior Director Conservation Programme at WWF-Pakistan, highlighted that the partnership expands community outreach and science-based conservation across Pakistan. Shaykh Sultan Niaz ul Hassan<\/strong> emphasised translating values into practical action, and Maulana Attaullah Shahab<\/strong> noted the urgency for Gilgit-Baltistan as glaciers and water systems change under a warming climate.<\/p>\n The MoU signing convened civil society, environmental groups and development stakeholders to formalise roles and plan stakeholder engagement.
