ISLAMABAD: Challengers edged Stars by one wicket in a thrilling second-round fixture of the National Women\u2019s U19 Tournament at the Oval Academy Ground, Karachi, while Conquerors defeated Strikers by 58 runs at the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex on Friday.<\/p>\n
At the Oval Academy Ground, Challengers chased down a 96-run target in 24.5 overs, finishing at 96-9 with one wicket in hand. Openers Pakeeza Shabbir and Esha Tir Razia provided a 34-run start, scoring 21 off 31 balls with three fours and 10 off 22 balls, respectively.<\/p>\n
Stars then hit back strongly, taking eight wickets for 28 runs to trigger a collapse. However, No. 9 Maryam Ahmed and No. 10 Farya Sadaqat shared a decisive 32-run stand to revive the chase. Maryam remained unbeaten on 16 off 23 balls, hitting two fours, while Farya made 15 off 14 balls with two boundaries.<\/p>\n
With two runs required, Stars pacer Barirah Saif bowled Farya, but No. 11 Huba Nadeem stayed unbeaten during the two balls she faced as Challengers crossed the line.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Stars were bowled out for 95 in 27.3 overs after Challengers captain Memoona Khalid produced a match-winning off-spin spell. Memoona, who was named player of the match, claimed four wickets for 20 runs in five overs.<\/p>\n
Qamrosh Farhan top-scored for Stars with 26 off 63 balls, including one four, while Sawera Ramzan made 25 off 22 balls with two fours and a six. Afsheen Imran was the only other batter to reach double figures, scoring 12 off 32 balls. Maryam Ahmed, Esha Tir Razia and Aleena Shah took one wicket each for Challengers.<\/p>\n
At the NBP Sports Complex, Conquerors, after being invited to bat first, posted 155-5 in the allotted 30 overs. Openers Amna Shahnawaz and Malaika Suhani gave their side a solid start with a 55-run partnership. Amna scored 30 off 54 balls with four fours, while Malaika struck 28 off 37 balls with five boundaries.<\/p>\n
After Maryam Sajjad and Noor-e-Sahar fell early to Zainab Khanum, Hadia Mina, Nasreen Ashraf and Narjis Bibi lifted Conquerors past the 150-run mark. Hadia made 22 not out off 30 balls with one four, wicketkeeper-batter Nasreen scored 21 off 20 balls with four fours, and Narjis remained unbeaten on 13 off eight balls with two boundaries.<\/p>\n
For Strikers, Zainab Khanum took three wickets for 25 runs, while Adieyah Noor and Maria claimed one wicket each.<\/p>\n
In reply, Strikers lost their top five batters for single-digit scores and slipped to 25-6. Adieyah Noor and Samia Ashraf then added 62 runs, but the effort was not enough as Strikers were bowled out for 97 in 28.3 overs. Adieyah scored 28 off 77 balls with four fours, while Samia made 20 off 38 balls with three boundaries.<\/p>\n
Hadia Mina completed an all-round performance with figures of 3-19 in six overs and was declared player of the match. Abeera Riazuddin took 2-13, while Areeqa Fatima grabbed 2-20.<\/p>\n
The teams will rest on Saturday. The third round will be played on Sunday, with Invincibles taking on Strikers at the NBP Sports Complex and Conquerors facing Stars at the HPC Oval Ground.<\/p>\n
