ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad has announced a schedule of protest sit-ins in different parts of the federal capital against the petroleum levy and the increase in prices of petroleum products.<\/p>\n
According to Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad, the participants of the sit-ins will listen live to an address by Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman. Local office-bearers and leaders of the party will also address the gatherings.<\/p>\n
The party has demanded that the government abolish the petroleum levy and provide immediate relief to the people. It said all sit-ins would be held from 8:30pm to 10:00pm.<\/p>\n
As per the announced schedule, the protest sit-in will be held in Ghouri Town on August 23, Karachi Company on August 24, G-7\/3 on August 25, B-17 on August 27, PWD on August 28, Bara Kahu on August 29, Jhangi Syedan on August 29, and Lehtrar Road on August 31.<\/p>\n
Jamaat-e-Islami has appealed to citizens to participate fully in the sit-ins being organised in their respective areas.<\/p>\n
According to the party, the protest campaign against the petroleum levy is not limited to Islamabad and is also continuing in different parts of the country, where the public is being mobilised to join the movement.<\/p>\n
Jamaat-e-Islami maintained that the government was placing an additional burden on the people through various taxes and levies on petroleum products. It said the rise in fuel prices affects transport fares, prices of essential commodities and overall inflation.<\/p>\n
