RAWALPINDI, August 28, 2026: A team of specialist doctors at the Plastic Surgery Department of Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi, has successfully reattached the severed hand of a five-year-old child referred from Jhelum, marking an important achievement in emergency reconstructive surgery.<\/p>\n
According to details, the child, a resident of Jhelum, suffered a severe injury after his hand was completely separated from the body by a blow from a sharp chopper. He was immediately referred to Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi, and brought to the Plastic Surgery Department on August 28, 2026, where doctors decided to carry out emergency surgery.<\/p>\n
The medical team, led by Dr Tayyab and Dr Ambreen of the Plastic Surgery Department, performed a complex microvascular procedure to reattach the child\u2019s hand. During the operation, blood vessels, veins and other vital structures were restored through highly delicate surgical techniques to re-establish blood flow to the severed hand.<\/p>\n
Doctors said hand replantation in a young child is an extremely complicated and time-consuming procedure. They added that timely referral, proper preservation of the detached body part and the availability of an expert microsurgical team play a crucial role in such cases.<\/p>\n
The Plastic Surgery Department at Holy Family Hospital described the successful operation as a significant development in the treatment of complex trauma and microsurgery. The child has been placed under special post-operative observation, while doctors are continuously monitoring blood circulation and recovery of the reattached hand.<\/p>\n
Medical experts also advised the public that if any body part is severed in an accident, it should not be placed directly on ice.
