ISLAMABAD, September 1, 2026: Dr Nikhat Shakeel Khan, MNA and Convener of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights, has strongly condemned the alleged sexual abuse of a nine-month-old infant in Sohawa Bolani, Civil Lines, Mandi Bahauddin.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Dr Nikhat termed the incident deeply painful, barbaric and an assault on humanity. She said abuse and violence against children, particularly sexual abuse of infants, constituted a serious violation of their fundamental rights and the Constitution of Pakistan.<\/p>\n
She said every child had the right to life, safety, dignity and protection, adding that the State carried the foremost responsibility to protect children from all forms of abuse and exploitation.<\/p>\n
Dr Nikhat urged the Punjab Police and other relevant authorities to conduct a swift, transparent and impartial investigation into the incident. She said the perpetrator must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law under Section 376(iii) of the Pakistan Penal Code to ensure exemplary punishment and deter such heinous crimes.<\/p>\n
The PCCR convener also called for urgent steps to strengthen child protection mechanisms across the country. She underlined the need for effective implementation of the Zainab Alert Response and Recovery Act, operationalisation of district Child Protection Units, and immediate medical, psychological and legal support for survivors and their families.<\/p>\n
Reaffirming her commitment to the protection and promotion of children\u2019s rights, Dr Nikhat said she would continue working with Parliament, the Government and civil society to advance legislative and policy measures aimed at ensuring a safe, secure and nurturing environment for all children in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
She said these efforts were in line with Pakistan\u2019s obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.<\/p>\n
Dr Nikhat also expressed heartfelt sympathies with the family and prayed to Allah Almighty for the complete recovery and strength of the infant survivor, patience for the family, and protection of every child in Pakistan from violence and harm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
