ISLAMABAD, September 7, 2026: The National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has completed a three-day Tier-I Faculty Training Programme on Artificial Intelligence for lecturers and assistant professors working in public sector higher education institutions.<\/p>\n
The programme, titled \u201cAI Literacy for Educators: Building AI-Ready Institutions,\u201d was aimed at enhancing the capacity of faculty members to understand, critically assess and responsibly apply artificial intelligence in teaching, learning, research, assessment and academic practice.<\/p>\n
According to HEC, NAHE has so far trained around 400 faculty members from universities through the initiative. These include 332 participants in the first cohort and nearly 64 in the second cohort.<\/p>\n
The training was developed as a comprehensive professional development activity, bringing together conceptual learning, practical hands-on exercises, critical reflection and the application of AI across varied academic settings.<\/p>\n
Managing Director NAHE (HEC) Dr Noor Amna Malik attended the opening and closing ceremonies as chief guest. Members of the NAHE team, resource faculty and participating faculty members were also present.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the participants, Dr Noor Amna Malik underlined the significance of using AI ethically in higher education. She said artificial intelligence was rapidly transforming the ways knowledge is created, taught, assessed, researched and applied.<\/p>\n
She stressed that faculty members must protect academic integrity, critically examine AI-generated outputs and safeguard privacy and intellectual property. Referring to the need for AI-ready institutions, she said meaningful integration of AI required capable faculty, institutional preparedness, suitable governance mechanisms, ethical safeguards and continuous professional development.<\/p>\n
The programme focused on building participants\u2019 foundational and applied understanding of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Large Language Models and Generative AI, along with their relevance to teaching, learning, research and assessment.<\/p>\n
It also covered discipline-specific uses of AI, including emerging applications in healthcare, business, banking, communication, creativity, data analytics, research and education. The interdisciplinary component enabled participants to examine the relevance and appropriate use of AI in their respective academic disciplines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
